May 31, 2022 · In total, 12 species and three subspecific varieties belonging to 12 families were identified. Information about diagnostic characteristics, habitat preference and other features of these species are provided below. We have found representative specimens of two of the three extant subphyla of brachiopods, i.e. Craniiformea and Rhynchonelliformea. In recent brachiopods, the morphology and dimension of fibres are characteristic for a given brachiopod species and are evolutionarily adapted to the animal’s habitat 27,28.
